Every placement starts with the same question: what does this child need?

Open Door has guided over 1,900 adoptions in thirty years — domestic infant, foster-to-adopt, and international. We work at the pace of readiness, never sales quotas. Nobody here earns commission.

Info sessions free, monthly · Home study $2,800 flat · Full program fees published on page one of the packet — never discovered mid-journey

The journey

Four seasons, honestly described.

i.

Learn

Free info session — the real timelines, real costs, and real emotional terrain. Bring every doubt you have.

ii.

Prepare

Home study and 24 hours of education. Less inspection, more preparation — our families call it the part they're glad existed.

iii.

Match

Profiles shown to expectant parents who choose you. We prepare you for the waiting — and for the matches that change course.

iv.

Family

Placement, finalization, and the part nobody budgets for: the lifetime of support after — included, forever.

"They told us eighteen to thirty months and it took twenty-six. Every fee matched the packet from day one. In a process this uncertain, their honesty was the ground we stood on."

The questions everyone carries in

What does adoption actually cost?

Foster-to-adopt: usually under $3,000, often reimbursed. Domestic infant through our program: $28,000–$38,000 all-in, itemized on page one of the packet. International varies by country; we publish each program's range. If a fee isn't in the packet, you don't owe it.

How long will we wait?

Domestic infant matches have ranged 8–40 months here; the median is 22. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed timeline is selling something. What we guarantee is honest reporting of where you are in the process, monthly.

We're not a "typical" family. Will that matter?

Our placements include single parents, LGBTQ+ couples, older parents, and renters. Expectant parents choose — and they choose all kinds of families. The home study measures readiness, not resemblance to a catalog.

What does "open adoption" commit us to?

Whatever the match agrees to — from letters once a year to regular visits. Openness is a spectrum set by both families with counselor support, and our post-placement team helps it evolve as the child grows.
