Practice becomes a habit when lessons become a joy.

Fermata's teachers are working musicians who actually like teaching β€” and it shows in our retention: students stay an average of 3.8 years. The first lesson is a $15 trial, applied to your first month if you stay.

Twice a year

The recital is the secret engine.

Every student β€” five-year-olds and 60-year-old beginners alike β€” gets a stage, a printed program with their name, and an audience that claps like it means it. Nothing fuels six months of practice like remembering the last applause.

β™© Terrified? There's a no-solo ensemble option. Nobody performs alone until they ask to.

"My daughter quit two other schools. Fermata's teacher figured out she didn't hate piano β€” she hated the method book. They've been writing songs together for two years now."

Common questions

Before the trial

Is my kid old enough? Am I too old?

We start piano and violin at 5, most other instruments at 7 β€” and our oldest current beginner is 71. Adults are a third of the school. The trial lesson answers this better than any age rule.

What if my child won't practice?

Then the assignment is wrong, not the child. Our teachers assign 10–15 focused minutes with a specific goal, and we coach parents on when to push and when to let a week slide. Retention says it works.

Do you do grade exams and auditions?

Yes β€” RCM and ABRSM prep, plus school-audition coaching. About 40 students test each year; pass rate last year was 100%, with 60% earning distinction.

What happens if we miss a lesson?

Two makeup credits per semester, bookable into any open slot β€” no doctor's note theater. Beyond that, months pause with two weeks' notice.
