"Another outfit quoted a $14,000 drainfield. Groundwork camera'd the line, found a crushed pipe at the tank outlet, fixed it for $460, and showed me the footage of both. That's the whole difference."

Before it backs up

How often should my tank actually be pumped?

Every 3–5 years for most households — but it's math, not folklore: tank size ÷ household size ÷ habits. Our sludge measurements put YOUR tank on a real schedule, and we remind you when it's due, not quarterly.

What are the warning signs of trouble?

Slow drains everywhere at once (not one fixture), gurgling after flushes, wet or lush stripes over the field, and odors outside. Any two together: book the inspection this week — early trouble is a $300 problem, ignored trouble is an excavation.

Are additives and "tank treatments" worth it?

Honest answer: no — a used tank has all the bacteria it needs, and some additives actively harm fields. Save the $20/month; spend it on pumping on schedule. Yes, we're talking ourselves out of a product line.

We're buying a house with septic. What do we need?

The $375 real-estate inspection: tank pumped and inspected, lines camera'd, field dye-tested, written report within 24 hours. Never buy on "it was fine when we lived here" — that sentence has funded many excavations.
