The grade is a symptom. We treat the gap.

Most tutoring re-explains last week's homework. Margin Notes starts with a diagnostic that finds the missing foundation — often two grades back — and fixes that. The report card follows.

Diagnostic assessment $95 — credited to month one · Weekly 1-on-1 from $260/mo · SAT/ACT program $1,150

Median across 140 students last year: +1.3 letter grades in one semester. Individual results vary — the diagnostic tells us how much, honestly.

Math, science, and the tests that gate everything.

Math, 6–12

Pre-algebra through calculus. Math gaps compound hardest — a shaky fractions year becomes an algebra crisis. We find the original crack and rebuild from there.

From $260/mo weekly

Science

Chemistry, physics, biology — taught as systems to reason about, not vocabulary to memorize. Lab-report coaching included, because that's where grades quietly die.

From $260/mo weekly

SAT / ACT

A 12-week program built off a full practice test: personal error taxonomy, targeted drills, and three more real-condition tests. Median gain last year: +120 SAT points.

The method

Diagnose. Rebuild. Report.

i.

The diagnostic

Ninety minutes, no grade attached, working backward until we find solid ground. Parents get a written map of exactly what's missing — worth the $95 even if you never book a session.

ii.

Same tutor, every week

One tutor owns the plan — a degreed specialist, not a rotating gig-app stranger. Sessions target the gap map, not whatever homework is due Friday (though we make time for the test on Tuesday).

iii.

The Friday note

Every week, parents get three sentences: what we worked on, what moved, what's next. You will never wonder what you're paying for.

"The diagnostic found a sixth-grade fractions gap in my tenth grader. Fixed that, and algebra suddenly 'clicked.' Two years of homework battles, explained in ninety minutes."

Parent questions

Before the assessment

How is this different from the homework-help apps?

Apps answer tonight's question; we fix why tonight's question is hard. Same tutor weekly, a written gap map, and Friday notes home. It costs more than an app and considerably less than a lost semester.

My kid resents tutoring. Will this go badly?

Common, and usually because past tutoring felt like more school. Sessions here start from "here's what you're actually good at" — the diagnostic proves competence before touching weakness. Most resistant kids settle in by week three.

In person or online — does it matter?

Results are equivalent in our data; attention is what matters. Under 13, we mildly recommend in person. Online sessions are recorded and shareable with parents on request.

What does the guarantee actually promise?

If the class grade hasn't moved after 90 days of weekly sessions, the next month is free while we re-plan with a second specialist. It exists because the diagnostic makes surprises rare — claimed twice in three years.
